Ilayaraaja Gives A Funny Tidbit About Per Vechaalum Song

Composer Ilaiyaraaja's Per Vechaalum Vekkama song from Kamal Haasan's timeless classic Michael Madana Kamarajan is one of the evergreen hits from the combo. The song was remixed by his son, Yuvan Shankar Raja in Santhanam's Dikkilona. The song crossed 1 crore hits on multiple platforms. On this special occasion, Yuvan Shankar Raja shared a video of his dad Ilaiayaraaja in which he spoke about what happened during the composing session of the song.

Speaking about the song, Ilaiyaraaja said, "Director Singeeta Srinivasa Rao and Kamal sir were waiting in the composing room. We discussed many things and narrowed them down to a tune. Once the tune was finalized, we called lyricist Vaali. I hummed the tune and Vaali asked how he can write lyrics. I told them that the lyrics for the song were already written. He asked me who it was. I said Thiruvalluvar and quoted the the kural Thupparku Thuppaya. Vaali was amazed knowing that the Thirukural suited the tune perfectly. That's when he wrote the lyrics Per Vachaalum Veaikaama Ponaalum Malli Vaasam." Ilaiyaraaja's video has crossed several lakh views on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter and is still going strong. The remix version of the song has topped the charts.
