Impose capital punishment on rape convicts: Namrata Shirodkar

The brutal rape and murder of the Hyderabad based veterinary doctor have shaken up the entire nation. This incident has once again proved that the country is not a safe place for women. Many people raised their voices against this vicious incident. Celebrities like Chiranjeevi, Akshay Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, and Farhan Akhtar, who condemned this act. Earlier today, even Mahesh Babu tweeted against this heinous crime.

Now, Mahesh's wife and former actress Namrata Shirodkar have added her voice to the movement. She demanded capital punishment for the accused. The actress said that Hyderabad accepted her with open arms when she first came to the city but now, she is feeling threatened by the same city. Her post read, "Devastating & sad!! A woman is not an opportunity... on the street nor at home...!!! She's not a second-class citizen. She can't be treated wrong. She must feel safe EVERYWHERE! It's extremely disturbing to see the news. How can one stoop down to this level of brutality & barbarism!!! How long will this go on for? We have been waiting for a change for way too long. Being a woman and a mother, I cannot imagine what the family is going through. Hyderabad welcomed me with open arms when I first came from Bombay. But today, the same city seems to threaten me and feels unsafe. The judiciary must impose stricter laws on sexual assault. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT to the convicts is what is needed!!
