Young filmmaker Karthick Naren made his mark in the Tamil film industry with his first film, Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru. His second film Naragasooran is yet to see the light of the day, while his third film Mafia: Chapter 1 starring Arun Vijay and Prasanna received a lukewarm response from the audience. Dhanush was impressed seeing Karthick Naren's talent and decided to do a film with him. The film, which is tentatively titled D43 went on floors early this year. After the 2021 lockdown, the makers resumed the film's shoot in Hyderabad with Dhanush, Malavika Mohanan, and the rest of the cast.

Meanwhile, there was a strong rumor doing the rounds that Karthick Naren has dropped out of the movie after he didn't come to the sets for a few days. Reportedly, Dhanush has taken over the project with the help of Subramania Siva. However, sources close to the team rubbished the rumors. According to reports, Karthick Naren fell sick and did not want to attend the shoot and put the rest of the team at risk. Hence he stayed away from the shoot. Produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, the film is tipped to be a commercial entertainer. Karthick Naren is still the director of D43 and the final schedule is currently progressing at a brisk pace.
