Jacqueline Fernandez was recently called by the Economics Offences Wing (EOW) and questioned about the Sukesh Chandrashekhar case for eight hours. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously listed the actress as an accused in a charge sheet they had submitted. Jacqueline, who earlier today appeared before special NIA Judge Shailendra Malick, was given temporary bail in the matter. The actress emphasized that she was Sukesh Chandrashekhar's victim and not an accomplice when speaking with the media and answering questions about her role in the extortion case.
For those who are unaware, according to a charge sheet submitted by the ED, Jacqueline Fernandez knew of the illegal operations that Sukesh Chandrashekhar was engaged in but still conducted business with him. The actress' legal team requested a pre-arrest bail in the case, it was revealed during today's court sessions. In addition to this, Judge Shailendra Malick has asked the ED for a statement addressing the actress's opposition to the agency's summons. Jacqueline has been given an interim release on a 50,000 rupee bail bond as of right now.
A few years ago, Sukesh Chandrashekhar was detained in connection with a money laundering investigation involving the 2017 Election Commission bribery scandal. He was also detained earlier this year for defrauding some well-known businessmen. Jacqueline Fernandez, on the other hand, was charged with accepting gifts from Sukesh totaling Rs. 7 crores in monetary benefit. According to reports, the con artist allegedly made large lump sum payments to the actress' relatives. The actress, who is listed as an accomplice in the case, has previously claimed that she was unaware of his involvement in illegal activity. She has also claimed that she met him through her friend Pinky Irani.
