Jr NTR opened up about RRR missing out on being India’s official entry to the Oscars. RRR picked home a slew of accolades at the recent 80th Golden Globes, including Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. The RRR crew is now campaigning for an Oscar nomination for the film in Hollywood. Pan Nalin's Last Film Show has been nominated for Best International Film at the Academy Awards.
Jr NTR was questioned in a recent interview about why RRR was not chosen as India's official submission for the Oscars. Jr NTR and Ram Charan had an unusual response. Jr NTR commented about Hindi being the national language. And also how their Telugu film RRR had made them proud. Regardless of whether it was chosen as India's Oscar entry or not.
Jr NTR told Variety, "I don’t think there is a lot of politics going on with what films should go. I think the panel, which is sitting down there knows what they do best... Hindi has primarily been a national language for a very long time and that’s why it has taken prominence. For us, choose RRR or don’t choose RRR, RRR has already made us proud.” Ram Charan added to the answer in a lighthearted fashion, saying, “He (Jr. NTR) is being really humble but I want these two awards... I just don’t want to jinx it.”
In the same interview, NTR Jr answered a question about whether both actors might picture themselves swapping roles in the film. Jr NTR stated that his co-star Ram Charan is an introvert in real life, thus he expects him to be more in the 'water' zone for the film. Jr NTR stated that with Ram Charan, you never know what is going on inside unless he is willing to share it in the scene because it is so minor.
At the Golden Globes, SS Rajamouli's RRR was nominated for Best Non-English Language Film. The prize was eventually won by Argentina, in 1985. Aside from Ram Charan and Jr NTR, the RRR cast includes Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris also play major roles. SS Rajamouli and his father, screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, collaborated on the global hit. On March 24, 2022, the film hit the screens in India.
