In their complaint, Lyca Productions stated that they had already paid Rs 14 crores token advance to Shankar and are ready to submit the rest of his salary amounting to Rs 26 crores to the high court.
Lyca mentioned that they agreed to pay Rs 40 crores remuneration to Shankar and the noted filmmaker had already received Rs 14 crores from their side. “ We are ready to pay him the remaining money, Rs 26 crores as well. All we want is for him to complete the project at the earliest.”
The renowned production house further added that the project has not been completed to date despite spending Rs 236 crores. “It was initially agreed to complete the entire project on a budget of Rs 180 crores but the overall costs shot up to Rs 236 crores already. But the project is yet to be completed and we hereby request the court to intervene and do the needful.”
Lyca Productions requested the court to issue an order, banning Shankar from commencing other projects before wrapping up Indian 2. The court refused to grant an order in this regard though.
Madras High Court served a notice to Shankar regarding this case and he will have to respond by 15th April.
Indian 2 is the sequel to Indian which released back in 1996. Kamal Hassan, Kajal Aggarwal, and Siddharth were roped in to play pivotal roles in the film. The shoot was halted after a major accident on the sets which claimed the lives of three crew members.
It is known that Shankar recently agreed to direct RC15 which will have Ram Charan in the lead role. This project was officially announced in January.
