Though Madhavan made his debut with Mani Ratnam's Alaipaayuthey, it was Minnale that marked his entry into Tamil cinema. Alaipayuthey released before Minnale and got him huge recognition. Minnale introduced director Gautham Menon and music director Harris Jayaraj to the Tamil cinema audience. The film, which released in 2020, became a cut film over the years. Recently, Minnale was re-released in theatres across Tamil Nadu. Photos and videos from Minnale shows across the state from inside the theatres are doing the rounds on social media.
A fan of Madhavan took to Twitter to share a tweet that he is about to watch Minnale at Vettri Theatres in Chennai. Madhavan replied to the tweet and asked him to send a video from the theatre. Reacting to another video of Minnale, Madhavan wrote, "I love all your reactions and feel so alive thank you. I hope all of y’all are taking adequate precautions and following Covid protocol. Because that hall sounds super full to me (sic)." Composer Harris Jayaraj appealed to the audience to watch the film and share their comments.
