Director Shankar is one of the leading filmmakers in the Indian film industry. His last directorial was 2.0 with Superstar Rajinikanth. Though he started shooting for Kamal Haasan's Indian 2, it has been met with roadblocks since last year. The shooting was halted after a crane crashed on the tent claiming three lives and injuring several others. After February 2020, Indian 2 shooting never resumed. This year, Shankar announced two new films, one with Ram Charan and Anniyan remake with Ranveer Singh. Lyca Productions, who is bankrolling Indian 2, filed a case with the Madras High Court seeking Shankar to complete Indian 2 before moving to his other projects.
After several hearings, neither Shankar nor Lyca Productions were able to come to an amicable solution. The Court appointed special judge Bhanumathi to take over the case. The final judgment was passed recently and it has come in favor of director Shankar. The judge dismissed all the applications including the one which asked Shankar to furnish a surety of over Rs 170 crore (budget of Indian 2). Shankar, in one of the hearings, said that he will need at least three months to complete the film. It is to be seen whether Shankar would complete Indian 2 before moving on to his other projects.
