Mani Ratnam Is Thankful To Rajamouli For Opening The Doors To New Arenas

Mani Ratnam, the director, has claimed that SS Rajamouli was the one who paved the way for producers of period fantasies like Ponniyin Selvan. The renowned director made the remarks during a Ponniyin Selvan team promotional event held in Hyderabad last night.

Mani Ratnam, who is the director of the two-part epic, said, "I also want to thank Rajamouli garu. I'll tell you why I want to thank him. I think, in a way, he has opened the door for all of us. He's shown us that this kind of film can be made and he's shown us that it can be done in two parts… You can tell a story in two parts and be successful. I think Ponniyin Selvan is possible today because of Baahubali. I really want to thank him." The 2015 release of Baahubali: The Beginning and its 2016 sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion, both major box office successes, cleared the path for pan-Indian films. Up until that point, the film industry regarded historical dramas as extremely risky. Based on the five-part novel by Tamil author Kalki, Ponniyin Selvan will be released in two parts. On September 30, 2022, the first movie, known as PS-I in certain languages, is expected to be released. The big-budget multi-starrer, which has music by AR Rahman and stars Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in prominent parts, is set in the 10th century, when the Chola empire was in power.
