Mani Ratnam Responds To The Queries On Vairamuthu Not Being A Part Of Ponniyin Selvan

On September 30, Mani Ratnam's "Ponniyin Selvan," his magnum opus work, will be released in theatres. The cast is on a nationwide promotional tour with only 10 days till the movie's premiere. Mani Ratnam attends promotional events alongside the movie's major actors and actress. Mani Ratnam was reportedly asked during a recent media appearance in Chennai why lyricist Vairamuthu wasn't included in his major project. According to rumours, when asked how he felt about Vairamuthu not penning the lyrics, Mani Ratnam reportedly declined to react and indicated he did not want to discuss it.

When "Ponnyin Selvan" was first announced in 2020, it was reportedly stated that lyricist Vairamuthu had signed for the film during the initial shoot. However, reports claim that after Twitter users questioned Mani Ratnam about working with a lyricist who had been accused of sexual harassment, the director decided not to work with him.

A number of complaints of sexual harassment against lyricist Vairamuthu were made in 2018 by vocalist Chinmayi, including one that apparently came from US singer Sindhuja Rajaram. Vairamuthu, however, has refuted each and every charge.

The principal actors in the historical epic drama "Ponniyin Selvan" are Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Supporting parts are played by Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Nasser, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Vikram Prabhu. AR Rahman is responsible for the film's music composition.
