One of the classics made in Telugu cinema in the recent past is Nag Ashwin's directorial film Mahanati. This 2018 release featured Keerthy Suresh and Dulquer Salmaan in the lead roles. The film is a biopic of iconic South Indian actress Savitri. Today, it celebrates two years of its release. On this occasion, here is a look back to it.
 
When the makers announced that they are planning to film the biopic of Savitri, everyone's major doubt was who will be playing the lead role in it. Many actresses like Vidya Balan and Nitya Menen got considered but the role eventually went to Keerthy Suresh. Everyone was skeptical about the choice. Keerthy never proved her mettle before this film. People questioned the makers about their choice.
 
But when the film had hit the screens, everyone's doubts got shattered. Keerthy gave a lifetime performance in the movie. People felt like watching Savitri once again on the big screen. Such was the impact created by her. Right from day one, Mahanati garnered immense positive talk from the critics as well as the audiences. Even Dulquer's performance as Gemini Ganesan got a rave response from the audiences. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha essayed the other pivotal roles in this film.
 
Everyone who got involved in the film became stars overnight. Mahanati won three National Awards in total. Keerthy Suresh won Best Actress, Producers won Best Telugu film and the costume designers won the Best Costume Design Awards. It also won four Filmfare Awards, including Best Actress, Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor (Critics).
