Mammootty star Lijo Jose Pellissery's Nanpakal Neerath Mayakam released in Tamil Nadu yesterday. The characters speak both languages in the Malayalam movie, which is set entirely in Tamil Nadu. The film started showing on 29 screens. The film is distributed in Tamil Nadu by Dream Warrior Pictures. After KGF 2 and Kanthara, Nanpakal is the third foreign language film distributed by this company in Tamil Nadu.
The film was released in theatres on January 19, after premiering at the Kerala International Film Festival. The film, which won applause at the festival, was later seen being taken up by all sections of the audience. This overcame the preconceived notion that there would be no one to watch the film in the theatre. Along with Kerala, the film has been screened in the GCC, the US, and Canada. The film will also be released in the UK and Australia on January 27. The film has 27 screens in the UK alone.
A feature of the film is the different levels of presentation and character creation. Lijo has made Nanpakal with a different approach from his previous films. Mammootty appears in two roles in the film: James, the owner of a theatre troupe, and Sundaram, a Tamil villager. Nanpakal is different from the thematic premises of the characters that Mammootty has played so far in his career. He has managed to bring that variety to his performances as well. This is the first film produced under Mammootty Kampany. The film has been released by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films.
