Disney+ Hotstar is the most popular OTT platform in India as far as paid subscriber count goes. The platform has over 2.5 crores of paid subscribers. The platform exclusively streams the most popular cricket tournament in the world, the Indian Premier League, and that naturally garners its humongous viewership. Also, the widely popular Game Of Thrones series can only be streamed on Disney Hotstar, which adds to the viewer base. Disney Hotstar is now focusing on acquiring the direct to digital rights of mainstream Indian films.

2 - Amazon Prime Video - 1.7 Crore paid subscribers:

Amazon Prime Video has the largest database for any OTT platform in the world. Its collection of web series, films, and documentaries are thrice as big as its closest competitor, Netflix. Amazon Prime Video turned popular in the regional market after it started rolling out regional content that caters to Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi audiences. The platform is also known for acquiring the digital rights of the majority of the big-ticket films in Indian cinema. It has 1,7 crore paid subscribers in India.

3 - Sony Live - 70 lakh paid subscribers:

Sony Liv really embarked its footprint on the Indian OTT market with its original web series - Scam 1992, which turned out to be a raging hit. The paid subscriber count of Sony Liv almost doubled after the blockbuster success of Scam 1992. The platform is now focused on producing Telugu and Tamil content. With 70 lakh subscribers, Sony Liv is third on the list of most popular OTT platforms in India in regard to the paid subscriber count.

4 - Netflix - 46 lakh paid subscribers:

Netflix dominates the global OTT market but it just about manages to come fourth on the list of most popular OTT platforms in India. The platform has 46 lakh paid subscribers. Netflix’s regional content library isn’t as big as its competitors and that could be one of the reasons behind its rather sub-par numbers. Netflix has lapped up the urbane section of Indian digital audiences but the platform is lagging behind in the rural pockets of the country.

5 - ZEE5 - 40 lakh paid subscribers:

ZEE5 comes fifth on the list of most popular OTT platforms in the Indian OTT market. The platform has 40 lakh paid subscribers. ZEE5 doesn’t have any cornerstone film or web series to date. The platforms have mostly been acquiring and producing small-scale projects. But with one of the lowest subscription charges for any OTT platform in the country, it has the potential to climb up the ladder.
