In the Siddharth Anand-directed film Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan makes his big-screen debut after a four-year absence. Through the course of the previous week, the movie broke all previous records for advance sales. It eventually finished the job by selling 5.6 lakh tickets across the three chains, PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. With 4.10 lakh tickets sold, War, starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, had the second-highest advance ever for an unadulterated Hindi film. However, the movie has significantly outperformed that. It speaks something about the buzz surrounding the movie that the reaction to advance reservations has been, to put it mildly, historic.
When seen from a Pan India viewpoint, the Shah Rukh Khan-starring film has more advanced reservations than the Yash-starring KGF 2. In the three chains, about 5.15 lakh tickets had been sold. The SS Rajamouli-directed film Bahubali 2 is the largest advance of all time (6.50 lakh tickets), while Pathaan is second. The fact that Pathaan was released on a non-holiday makes this accomplishment even more impressive. War and KGF 2 were released on public holidays.
Pathaan has sold over 11 lakh tickets nationwide. It has thus set yet another record for a Bollywood movie by a significant margin. The advance booking records set by Pathaan will stand for a very long time as it would take an extremely hyped Hindi picture to surpass them. Pathaan expects its first day's sales in India to be in around Rs 50 crore. According to the Hindi version, there is a good probability that it would earn more than Rs 45 crore on its opening day. Pathaan also hopes to set a Bollywood record by scoring a century in just two days.
The YRF production will debut on 5200 screens in India (4800 in Hindi). Another 2500 screens will be available in other markets. It will thus bring the total number of screens available worldwide to 7700. The film's shows begin as early as 6 am. On January 26, Republic Day, it is anticipated that they will last all day. Along with Salman Khan making a lengthy cameo as Tiger, the film also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in key roles.
