Rahul Roy Starrer Agra To Premiere At The Cannes Film Festival

Agra, a Hindi film directed by Kanu Behl will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Saregama India Ltd, UFO Production, and O28 Films produce the film. The film will premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Festival next month. Starring Rahul Roy, who will be making a comeback after suffering a brain stroke in 2020, the film also features Priyanka Bose, Mohit Agarwal, and Ruhani Sharma. Veteran actors Vibha Chibber, Sonal Jha, and Aanchal Goswami also star in the film.

The film, written by Kanu Behl and Atika Chohan, explores sexual dynamics within a family. It delves into the deep fractures created in modern India that are fast shrinking into pigeon-holed spaces. Rahul Roy expressed excitement about the film's exploration of topics that had been knotted within him for years. The film's director, Kanu Behl, added that Agra was a deeply personal and difficult exploration for him. He said that he hopes the film will open a conversation around sexuality and the homes we choose to live in as it reaches a wider audience. Agra is the only Indian film selected for the Directors' Fortnight. It is a non-competitive section highlighting independent films from around the world. It is open to all festival goers. It is the second Indian film named for the prestigious French festival after Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. The opening film is Cedric Kahn's The Goldman's Case, while Hong Sang-soo's In Our Day will close the section. Agra was developed at the PJLF Three Rivers residency program in Italy, with the prestigious ‘Cinema du Monde’ film fund backing it. The film was also part of the FBR section of the Viewing Room at NFDC’s Film Bazaar in 2022. This is Kanu Behl's second film to premiere at Cannes; his debut film Titli premiered in the Un Certain Regard section in 2014.
