We are already aware that the Government of India has decided to re-telecast a few iconic serials from yesteryear, such as Ramayan and Mahabharat, during this lockdown period. Doordarshan is doing it to take their viewers back down memory lane while also getting entertained during this lockdown. Now, the official reports state that the rerun of Ramayana broke all the existing TRP records of Doordarshan. It got 170 million viewers worldwide in four shows.
According to BARC India, Ramayan garnered 170 million viewers worldwide till now. This is the highest ever TRP rating for any Hindi General Entertainment Channel program since 2015. Ramayan is getting aired at 9 AM and 9 PM every day. The epic television serial had 78 episodes in total. At first, Doordarshan planned to telecast this serial only until the lockdown gets over. But now, it has decided to run all the episodes until the end.
Directed by Ramanand Sagar, Ramayan featured Arun Govil as Ram. Deepika Chikalia played the role of Sita. Sunil Lahri played Lakshman and Arvind Trivedi essayed Ravana's role in the movie. Dara Singh has done the role of Hanuman in it. It first premiered in 1987, and concluded in 1988. Ramayan was also remade in 2008.
Apart from Ramayan and Mahabharat, there are other iconic TV shows which are getting re-telecasted during this lockdown. Some of them include Shaktimaan, Circus, Byomkesh Bakshi and Dekh Bhai Dekh. People who almost forgot Doordarshan, are now sticking to the very same channel, due to this re-telecast of the serials.
