When it got announced that Raj Kumar Hirani is making a biopic of Sanjay Dutt, there is a lot of expectations on the film. When it got confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will play the lead role in it, the expectations doubled. After the three years of the announcement, the film 'Sanju' had finally hit the theaters in 2018. As expected, it also became a blockbuster at the box office. Today, it celebrates two years of its release. On this occasion, here is a look back into it.
Sanju is the biographical drama based on the life of popular hero Sanjay Dutt. It had a huge star cast including big names. Apart from Ranbir, actors like Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala played the other important roles in the film. The film traces the journey of Sanjay from being a drug-addict during his early age, entry into films, link-up with terrorists and mafia, fall and rise as an actor, and serving the jail sentence. It mainly focusses on the relationship between Sanjay and his father Sunil Dutt. Hirani made it an emotional father-son story rather than a conventional biopic. That worked very well for the film.
Upon its release, the film won several acclaims from critics as well as the audiences. Ranbir got a lot of praise for his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt. It collected more than Rs. 500 crores at the international box office and became a huge blockbuster.
