The coronavirus pandemic has severely affected the movie business. We are already aware that the theaters got shut for the last three months. Only a few states in India have allowed films to resume shootings. The majority of the states are yet to give permission for shootings. Various films are lying under cans and waiting for a theatrical release. People who have already bought the rights of these films are now bearing a financial burden. Some of them are demanding their money back from the producers. The same situation is being faced by one of the most awaited films in Tollywood, RRR. If the latest reports are anything to go by, the USA buyers of this movie are now demanding the producers to give their money back.
According to the sources, the USA's rights of RRR got sold for more than Rs. 60 crores. The deal happened more than a year ago. Now, there is an uncertainty on when the theaters will reopen. The situation is worse outside India and there are bleak chances of films getting an overseas release anytime soon. Moreover, the agreement between the USA buyers and RRR makers stated that the movie will hit the screens on January 8th, 2021. That seems to be impossible now, given the situation. Thus, the people who bought the USA rights are planning to get their money back from RRR's producer DVV Danayya.
