The song Besharam Rang garnered media attention before the film's release. It is a song from Pathaan featuring Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan. When the song, which was shot on a Spanish beach, was published in December. It drew criticism from certain people, who took issue with Deepika's saffron swimsuit. Many have praised Pathaan's two catchy songs, Besharam Rang and Jhoome Jo Pathaan, since the movie's January 25 premiere. The movie has been breaking box office records. Shilpa Rao, the singer for Besharam Rang, has since discussed the reasons behind her song's success in a new interview.
The results of many social media users recreating the song since it was first included in the Besharam Rang music video on December 12, 2022, are amazing. Shilpa Rao claimed that the 'chemistry' between Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan in Besharam Rang is what 'makes the song popular'. The fact that Deepika is "celebrating herself" in the song, "the good, the bad, and flawless," gave her the confidence to sing it.
Shilpa told News18, “In this one, she’s (Deepika is) celebrating herself. It’s great to see their (Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika's) chemistry on screen. They look fabulous in the music video... Siddharth Anand (Pathaan's director) told me this is the song where she is celebrating herself [in all her glory] – good, bad, and flawless. And that’s why I felt very empowered to sing that song,"
She responded to how Besharam Rang is being used as a means of "expression". Shilpa added, “I still believe that a song has to be great as it is. So, it is very important for it to have a good melody and lyrics that people can connect with. When it reaches that stage, only then will people pick it up and make it popular, so the promotion, reach, and reels will come after that... I think the only reason this song has done so well is because people have actually got the meaning of the song, which is to express yourself without apologies and to love yourself the way you are. People got that and so, they are expressing themselves and that’s why it’s getting popular.”
Vaibhavi Merchant, the choreographer for Besharam Rang, has responded to her song's haters. She argued that people don't go to the beach wearing complete garments. She justified Deepika's outfit in the song, which featured her saffron bathing suit. Additionally, she noted that Shah Rukh Khan's decision to go "shirtless" on the beach made sense as the song is all about "sensuality."
