Silambarasan aka Simbu underwent a massive transformation during the lockdown last year and has been reinventing himself. After losing almost 20 kilos, Simbu acted in Suseenthiran's Eeswaran, which received a lukewarm response from the critics and audience. He is presently waiting for the release of his upcoming film, Maanadu, directed by Venkat Prabhu. On June 21, the makers of Maanadu revealed the first single titled Meherezylaa. The song was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and was sung by his sister Bhavatharini.
To promote the film, Simbu, director Venkat Prabhu, Kalyani Priyadarshan, SJ Suryah, Premgi, Yuvan, and Bhavatharini took part in a Twitter Space session. During the interaction, Simbu said that he has been sober for a year now. He said, "Interestingly, I’ve been sober for a year. I gave up alcohol this very day a year ago. Imagine shooting with Prem during this one year, and still managing to not be tempted to have a drink!" He also said that staying away from alcohol has helped him a lot. Speaking about the film, Simbu said that Maanadu is a time loop political film, which is expected to release in theatres once the situation becomes normal.
