Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus on August 5, 2020. He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. However, his health deteriorated and he was put on a ventilator. Though he tested negative for Covid-19, his lungs couldn't handle the damage. On September 25, 2020, SP Balasubrahmanyam breathed his last. Ahead of his first year death anniversary, singer Srinivas, in an interview with The Times of India, spoke about his association with the legendary singer.
Singer Srinivas said, "My association with SPB began ever since I was young — as a fan. I loved his songs and sang them at all my college stages. His songs, be it from Ninaithale Inikkum or Nizhagal were played on repeat. I moved to Mumbai and then came back to Chennai to pursue a career in the film industry. Music director Vidyasagar was one of the first few people I met and he had called me one day for a recording. It was then I saw SPB sir walking towards the studio. He’d learned the song in 10 minutes and finished recording in 15 minutes. And that completely blew my mind. For a young singer like me (back then), to watch someone learn a song that fast was shocking (sic)."
