Star pan-Indian actress to walk out of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan; No confirmation yet on the development

Maverick director Mani Ratnam is currently busy in the works of his most ambitious project Ponniyin Selvan. The film is an adaptation of legendary Tamil novel of the same name. There is a huge star cast working for this film. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of them. But the Kollywood sources say that Aishwarya Rai may not be a part of this project anymore.

We already know that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has recently tested positive for the coronavirus. Not only her but most of her family members tested positive for the virus and are undergoing treatment in a hospital. The shoot of Ponniyin Selvan started earlier this year. Mani Ratnam completed a couple of schedules in Thailand. The shoot is currently on hold due to the pandemic. But, we hear that Mani wants to resume it very soon. The role of Aishwarya is a crucial one in the movie. Going by her current health condition, Aishwarya may not work for a few more months. Thus, Mani is now considering replacing her with another star actress. The hunt is already on and the director will finalize the new actress very soon.

Ponniyin Selvan features Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Shobita Dhulipalla in the other lead roles. AR Rahman is composing the music of this film. Mani Ratnam and Subhaskaran are jointly bankrolling the project under their respective banners Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
