The prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne was conducted recently. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, there was a low-key award ceremony that was held virtually. Many celebrities, stars, and journalists attended the virtual award ceremony. Suriya won the Best Performance Male (Feature) for his work in Soorarai Pottru, while his film won the Best Film (Feature) Award. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, is loosely based on the biography of Captain GR Gopinath. The film starred Suriya, Paresh Rawal, and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles.

Samantha, Vidya Balan, and Manoj Bajpayee are the other winners at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2021. Soorarai Pottru was released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020, on the occasion of Diwali.
