Sushant Singh Rajput had seen a cut of Dil Bechara; he was happy with the idea of a digital release, reveals director Mukesh Chhabra

The death of Sushant Singh Rajput by suicide shocked the masses. A series of debates and conspiracies have erupted since the death of the young actor. Some insist on a CBI probe. Some have expressed their disappointment over the idea to digitally release his last film Dil Bechara. Many people feel that a theatrical release would have been a better choice. Fox Star Studios, however, has decided to go the OTT way and make it available for everyone, digitally. With uncertainty as to when theatres will finally re-open, a digital release seems like a better option. The film will have a digital release on HotStar on the 24th of July. Amid discussions and debates favoring a theatrical release as a tribute to Sushant, the film's director Mukesh Chhabra has said that Sushant had supported the decision of a digital release. He also said that Sushant had seen a cut of the film during the dubbing process.

In a recent interview, Mukesh Chabbar said that Sushant had seen a rough cut, but not the final cut of the film.

"He had seen the film during dubbing. He was very excited about it. He couldn't see the final cut which is unfortunate. But he was happy and we were discussing how to market the film," revealed the director.

Director Mukesh also said that Sushant was aware of the team's decision to opt for a digital release. Sushant was supportive of the idea, says the director. "He was aware of the film being released online. He also felt that it's the best time to release the film digitally because everyone will be able to watch it. Nobody knows when theatres will open, and Sushant also knew that. He was happy with the decision too," said Mukesh.

Dil Bechara is a Bollywood recreation of the famous book and film - The Fault in Our Stars by author John Green. The film features Saif Ali Khan and Sanjana Sanghi apart from Sushant.
