The Psychological Thriller 'The Underbug' Starring Ali Fazal To Have Its World Premiere At The Slamdance Film Festival

Ali Fazal is currently making back-to-back genre-bending movies. The actor will now appear in another interesting production. He has an amazing slate of movies in the upcoming year. Hussain Dalal and Ali Fazal play the main roles in the Shujaat Saudagar-directed film The Underbug. The movie has been officially chosen for the upcoming Slamdance Film Festival. The fest is scheduled to run from January 20–26 both physically in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah, and virtually from January 23–29.

The movie is now in post-production. It was shot during the brief break in COVID lockdowns in late 2020. It is said that the movie, which was primarily shot in one house in the hinterland of Maharashtra, is a mind-bending psychological thriller. With all the secrecy surrounding this movie, the story we hear is about two people named X and Y and how they met while seeking safety in an abandoned home on July 4th. But when a spooky presence in that mansion drives the men to the brink of insanity, everything is not as it seems. This is a test of courage and will as they battle with their own inner demons and the outer world. Ali stated of the movie, “It’s unlike any other film I have ever done in my career so far. The film was shot under confusing circumstances at a time in my life which was already a test of patience and emotional turmoil right in the middle of the pandemic. The hardest part was to gain the weight and heaviness that was required for this character as the two characters are visually poles apart. Yes, it's harder to gain weight when you're fit. The script was a collaboration of sorts between the actors and the writers and our director. For that matter even our DOP whose eyes and lenses were totally in sync with the story we all were trying to tell.”
