Lyricist and singer Arunraja Kamaraj made his directorial debut with Sivakarthikeyan's maiden production venture, Kanaa. The film, which tells about women's cricket, features Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead role. The director signed his second film with actor Udhayanidhi Stalin. Earlier, we had reported that Arunraja will direct the remake of Ayushmann Khurrana's Article 15. The remake rights of Article 15 have been snapped up by Boney Kapoor. Now, the makers have unveiled the film's title. According to Arunraja, the film has been titled Nenjukku Needhi. The team has completed two schedules and the final schedule will commence next week in the Pollachi-Coimbatore belt.

In an interview with Times of India, Arunraja Kamaraj said, "The film talks about social justice and the stuff that involves our conscience. So, we couldn’t find a better title than this for our script. Kalaignar M Karunanidhi ayya’s autobiography was also titled Nenjukku Needhi. In that sense, there is a personal connection as well. When I suggested this name, everyone was happy about it. So, we finalized this title. The way Udhayanidhi understands a scene and enacts them is phenomenal. He has done a great job and we can’t wait to show the film to the audiences."
