Tamil actor Ilayathalapathy Vijay teamed up with director Vamshi Paidipally for his latest, Varisu, which released for Sankranthi this year. The film was also released in Telugu as Vaarasudu. While the Tamil version is doing well, the Telugu version has largely been ignored. Producer Dil Raju also made his Kollywood debut with the film, and has reportedly made good profits out of it.
Vijay received a hefty paycheque for the film, and a lot of budget was also put into the making of the film. The film was made on a lavish budget, and the film even went overboard, with a lot more budget put to use. Sources have revealed that a whopping Rs. 10 Crore was wasted. A sequence involving actress Khusbu Sundar was filmed with these 10 Crores. In the end, the sequence ended up on the editing table, and didn't make it to the final cut.
The reason for this is being cited as the director's dissatisfaction with the sequence. Varisu went through several reshoots, and the number of shoot days were also extended as a result, contributing to the extra budget.
Rashmika Mandanna is the leading lady of Varisu, which features an ensemble cast including Jayasudha, Sarath Kumar, Srikanth and several others. SS Thaman scored the music for the film, which turned out to be one of the biggest assets for the film. Varisu continues to hold strong in Tamil Nadu, with very good collections. The film is still struggling in the Telugu states though, and is not expected to pick up either.
