Celebrated director SP Jananthan died on March 14 after suffering a cardiac arrest in the hospital. Last Thursday, director Jananthan was overseeing the edit work of his upcoming film Laabam starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan. He said that he would return to the editing studio after having lunch. But, when he didn't return, his assistant director went to his home to check on him. To his shock, he found SP Jananthan lying unconscious at his home and rushed him to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. He was treated for a brain illness, but he suffered a heart attack on March 14 morning and breathed his last.
While he was hospitalized, Vijay Sethupathi paid a visit to the hospital and was moved to tears seeing his condition. According to reports, he has agreed to take care of the full medical expenses of SP Jananthan. The filmmaker's last rites took place today in Chennai. SP Jananthan's death has come as a huge shock to everyone in the film industry. Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi, Arya, and several other technicians and directors paid their last respects on social media.
