A man approaches Shiv Sena MP Nimbalkar, stabs him

An unidentified man stabbed Shiv Sena MP Omraje Nimbalkar during an election rally at Padoli Naigaon village in Maharashtra's Osmanabad district on Wednesday.

The incident happened when the man along with a group came close to Nimbalkar on the pretext of shaking hands with him. It was a narrow escape for Omraje Nimbalkar who escaped a major injury because of his wristwatch. The accused fled after attacking Nimbalkar, who suffered a hand injury. The police made an attempt to catch the assailant but he managed to slip away.

Notably, the Lok Sabha member’s father Pawanraje Nimbalkar, who was a Congress leader, shot dead in his car near Kalamboli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on June 3, 2006. Former Lok Sabha MP Padamsinh Patil is the key accused in the case.

Maharashtra’s 288-member assembly constituency will go to polls on October 21. The results will get declared on October 24.
