An unidentified man stabbed Shiv Sena MP Omraje Nimbalkar during an election rally at Padoli Naigaon village in Maharashtra's Osmanabad district on Wednesday.
The incident happened when the man along with a group came close to Nimbalkar on the pretext of shaking hands with him. It was a narrow escape for Omraje Nimbalkar who escaped a major injury because of his wristwatch. The accused fled after attacking Nimbalkar, who suffered a hand injury. The police made an attempt to catch the assailant but he managed to slip away.
Notably, the Lok Sabha member’s father Pawanraje Nimbalkar, who was a Congress leader, shot dead in his car near Kalamboli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on June 3, 2006. Former Lok Sabha MP Padamsinh Patil is the key accused in the case.
Maharashtra’s 288-member assembly constituency will go to polls on October 21. The results will get declared on October 24.
