A Delhi court has issued a death warrant against all four Nirbhaya gangrape convicts and said they will get hanged on January 22 at 7 am. Earlier, SC rejected a review petition filed by convict Akshay Thakur.
Last year, Delhi HC rejected a plea of convict Pawan Kumar, who had moved the court claiming he was a juvenile at the time of the offense. Nirbhaya’s father, Badrinath Singh said he was happy with the court's decision, adding that the verdict will instill fear in people who commit such crimes.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati MaliwaI slammed the delay in the verdict. “Why has it taken seven years to punish these people? Why can't this time period reduced?” Maliwal questioned.
The order had pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar Arora. The four death row convicts are Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Singh, and Pawan Gupta.
