Former India head coach Anil Kumble has been appointed as Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab’s head coach for the upcoming season, replacing Mike Hesson.
The 48-year-old is the Mohali-based franchise’s fifth head coach in five years. With this, Kumble also became the only Indian head coach in IPL 2020. Sanjay Bangar coached the team from 2014 to 2016 before Virender Sehwag took over in 2017. Brad Hodge and Mike Hesson were the head coaches for the next couple of seasons then, respectively.
Kings XI Punjab is one of the three teams that haven’t won an IPL trophy along with RCB and Delhi Dare Devils. They were undone in finals one time by Gambhir led KKR. Kumble will now give the presentation to the management on October 19, where the final decision on Ashwin’s retention is also expected to be taken. Kumble was India’s head coach from 2016 to 2017.
