Real Madrid's goal machine, Karim Benzema, who won the UEFA award, was at the top of the list of possibilities. Benzema is the player who gave Real the Champions League and the Spanish League. Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 matches. Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski, Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Bayern Munich's Sadio Mane and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo were all on the list of possibilities. It was also discussed that the current winner, Lionel Messi, did not make it to the potential list. The winner was chosen by a poll of 180 football journalists from around the world. The Women's Ballon d'Or, the Copa Trophy for Best Young Player and the Lev Yashin Trophy for Best Goalkeeper will also be awarded. Alexia Putias is the best female player. Barcelona's Gavi deserves the Copa trophy for the young player.
