Yet, the river Ganga turned into black color because of all those sins. So, Ganga asked Sri Mahavishnu free from all those sins. Vishnu Murthy advised Ganga to take a bath in all the holy pilgrimage. Until she loses her impurity and becomes pure. That place will become a holy shrine.
Thus, Ganga bathed in all the rivers in the form of a crow. Finally, Ganga, who is in the form of a crow has turned into a white swan. The place where Ganga turned into pure, is at the confluence of river Krishna and the ocean. Hence, it's named 'Hamsaladeevi'. That is a myth.
It's believed that the Gods built the temple in the past. They seem to have built the temple in one night. By the time of dawn, only Raja Gopuram was remaining to build. Since it's going to be sunrise, they left the place without finishing the dome. Later, during the period of the Chola and Mauryan kings renovated the temple. But they left the dome unfinished.
