Bharat Bandh: 25 crore likely to protest & Tension prevails across the country

Along with anti-CAA row and the JNU violence, the Modi government has one more thing to worry about.

Members of 10 central trade unions have called for a Bharat Bandh against the Central government's 'anti-worker' policies. Around 25 crore workers had expected to participate in the strike, the unions said. About 60 organizations of students and elected office-bearers of some universities have also decided to join the strike.

"The attitude of the government is that of contempt towards labor as we interpret from its policies and actions," the central trade unions said in a joint statement.

"The Modi-Shah Govt’s anti-people, anti-labor policies have created catastrophic unemployment & are weakening our PSUs to justify their sale to Modi’s crony capitalist friends," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Meanwhile, Chennai Police detained protesters on Mount Road as part of the Bharat Bandh. Tamil Nadu's chief secretary has warned that if the government employees don't work, then their day’s pay will be cut.
