DCP (Central Bangalore), Chethan Singh Rathore, asked protesters to join him in singing the national anthem. This resulted in the protests coming to an end. The incident was a fittingly bizarre end to the day, during which leading public figures got detained. Many protesters removed by the police simply walked back to the venue.
Unlike police in Mangalore and Lucknow, Bangalore police were reportedly forbidden from using violence to dispel the protests. By Thursday evening, the police opened discussions to try and end the protests.
Chethan Singh Rathore used the public announcement system to warn the crowd that their protest could have been used by anti-social elements to further their own causes. This generated an unenthusiastic response from the protesters. The DCP eventually asked the crowd to trust him and began singing the national anthem. The protesters, many of whom had been sitting on the steps of Town Hall, rose to sing it with him and dispersed soon after.
