The Supreme Court has granted bail to Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case registered by the CBI. However, the leader will continue to be in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until October 24 in the case filed by it. Chidambaram got arrested by the CBI in connection with the case in August.
Initially, the Congress leader challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision, which denied him anticipatory bail. However, Chidambaram’s lawyers later withdrew his petition against the INX Media case. Chidambaram, at Delhi HC, denied using the office of the finance minister for personal gain.
The Supreme Court said that Chidambaram could get released provided he is not arrested in any other case and on the personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. He has to make himself available for interrogation. The CBI has also accused Karti Chidambaram of receiving kickbacks in the matter.
