Former Samajwadi Party leader Neeraj Shekhar joins BJP
Former Samajwadi Party leader Neeraj Shekhar, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, joined the BJP in the presence of working president JP Nadda at party headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday.
He is the son of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar, a prominent Thakur face from eastern Uttar Pradesh. Shekhar has been upset with Akhilesh Yadav for ignoring his claim on his late father’s Ballia Lok Sabha seat.
The 50-year-old Uttar Pradesh politician, resigned from Rajya Sabha a year before his term was to end. BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav welcomed him into the party in Party headquarters.
Shekhar’s resignation has brought down the SP’s tally in the Upper House to 12 and the strength of the House to 240. With 78 MP’s in the house, BJP is the biggest political party and hopefully can improve the tally by one when the by-poll for the seat vacated by Shekhar is conducted.
