Heavy rains in Bangalore on Wednesday evening left roads in major parts of the city, including the IT sector in Bellandur, waterlogged. The Met Office said Rajamahal Guttahalli, in the northern part of the city, received 59 mm of rain. The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert due to heavy rain. The yellow alert will continue for the next three days.
Footage of waterlogged roads, water gushing into open manholes, and submerged vehicles in basement parking lots is circulating on social media. The rain started at around 7.30 pm and made the passengers miserable. Due to heavy rain, the wall near Majestic collapsed, and the vehicles parked on the road were damaged.
Last month, three days of continuous rain caused waterlogging in the city, leading to a major crisis. This also led to a political battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. Parts of the city, home to global IT companies and domestic startups, were under water. It took days for the water to clear.
Drinking water supplies and power lines were also damaged in nearby residential areas. Many had to use tractors for travel. Schools have been closed, and work-at-home arrangements have been made for office-goers. Flight services had to be suspended. Videos of flooded roads, houses, and expensive cars submerged in water were circulated on social media. The IT capital witnessed record rainfall last month. 1706 mm of rainfall has been recorded since the onset of the monsoon. In 2017, the city received 1,696 mm of rainfall.
