The IPL player auction for 2020 edition will take place on December 19 in Kolkata, as per reports. This year's auction will be the last small one before the franchises prepare to assemble fresh squads at a mega auction in 2021. All the eight franchises got information on Monday that the trading window would close on November 14.
The BCCI has also decided to change the venue of the auction this year. While traditionally, Bengaluru has hosted the event, Kolkata will be the host for the upcoming edition. All the current eight teams with their respective franchise owners and staff will take part in this auction. There is no sign of additional teams yet as there have been some rumours that two new teams will get inclusion in the next edition.
The auction will not be a very big affair. This will be the last small one before franchises disband next year and prepare to assemble fresh squads from 2021 at a mega auction. In the last auction, all the eight franchises had permission to retain five players. The board is yet to announce the number of players the franchise can retain.
