Over 3 lakh 'ghost children' identified in Assam Government schools

There are over 3 lakh 'ghost children' in Assam government schools who got registered during the erstwhile Congress government, an official release said on Monday.
 
Congress had shown these fake figures to embezzle public money sanctioned for books, mid-day meals, and uniforms of the non-existent students, it added. CM Sarbananda Sonowal said they will take strict action against the guilty.
 
“In the meeting, enrollment figure of all government and provincialized schools had shown as 46,69,970 from class I to XII in 2018-19 academic session. It is lower than 49,82,180 of the 2016-17 session. The Chief Minister got informed that more than 3 lakh 12 thousand identified as ghost children that had registered during the previous state government regime,” an official statement said.
 
Meanwhile, Sonowal announced that a Chief Minster’s Special Teachers’ Award will be given to the best performing teachers in government schools for their contribution to the overall development of academic activities of their schools, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, inspiriting students to achieve their full potential, etc.
