Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, action was taken against the hospital in the case of the death of a man suffering from dengue after Sweet lemon juice was injected instead of plasma. Following the incident, the hospital was locked and sealed. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry into the patient's death. A committee has been formed to investigate the hospital. The incident took place at a private hospital in Prayagraj.
Relatives of the patient say that they bought five units of platelets for Rs 25,000. By the time four units were injected, the patient was paralyzed. Relatives said they had a unit and wanted to check it out. The hospital authorities allege that the relatives of the patient bought the platelets. As the patient's platelet count dropped to 17,000, relatives were asked to adjust blood platelets, hospital officials added.
"They brought five units of platelets from a government hospital. Three units were injected into the patient. The patient's condition worsened. So we stopped it," the hospital owner said in a statement. He added that he also supported the investigation. Prayagraj District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Khatri said that an investigation is underway and the platelets will also be tested.
But the patient's condition became critical and he was shifted to another private hospital. The patient died there. Relatives said that doctors at this private hospital informed them that the 'platelet' bag was fake and was actually mixed with chemicals and sweet or Sweet lemon juice.
