Rishabh Pant to fly to England as cover for injured Shikhar Dhawan!
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is being flown to England by the BCCI as cover for injured Shikhar Dhawan at the request of the team management.
This comes after the BCCI said Dhawan will remain under observation in England after injuring his thumb against Australia. He is expected to join the team on Wednesday ahead of the game against the Kiwis at the Trent Bridge and will train as well. But, Pant won't be considered as replacement till team management takes a final call on Dhawan's availability.
Shikhar Dhawan was named man-of-the-match for his sterling innings in the previous match where he was hit on the thumb while facing Aussie pacer, Nathan CounterNile’s bouncer and his injury is a huge blow to India who is hot favourites to win the World Cup this year.
BCCI is still hopeful of Dhawan recovering in a few days’ time. Also, according to the rules, once an injured player is ruled out and a replacement is named for him, the former cannot come back even if he is fit later. This is the reason the team management wants to play it safe and keep Dhawan under observation.
