Along with Manoj Bajpayee, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Shrivastava, and Paresh Rawal, it features J. D. Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, and other actors. It is the first book of Varma's trilogy about organised crime in India called Gangster. The movie centres on Satya (Chakravarthy), an immigrant looking for work in Mumbai who becomes friends with Bhiku Mhatre (Bajpayee) and gets sucked into the underworld of Mumbai.
