Shankar lands in a legal mess after announcing Anniyan’s Hindi adaption
Yesterday, maverick director Shankar and Pen Studios announced they will be collaborating with Ranveer Singh for the Hindi adaption of acclaimed social drama Anniyan. Shankar and Ranveer seemed excited about the project and their social media posts suggested the same.
However, Anniyan’s Hindi adaption has hit a roadblock already as Shankar has landed in a legal mess after announcing the project.
Aascar Ravichandran who produced Anniyan has announced that Shankar did not seek his permission for the Hindi adaption of the film and warned the acclaimed director of legal action if he doesn’t call off the project at the earliest.
“I am utterly shocked to know that you are likely to undertake the direction of a Hindi film by adopting the story of the movie Anniyan. You are well aware of the fact that I am the producer of the said movie Anniyan. The entire story rights was purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangaraju) for which the full payment was done by me and necessary records are also available. I am the sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any adaption or remaking on copying the main plot of the said film without my permission is totally illegal,” Aascar Ravichandran wrote in a letter addressed to Shankar.
The noted producer also sent a legal notice to Shankar for announcing the Hindi adaption of his story.
Not so long ago, Shankar was dragged to court by Lyca Productions for not completing Indian 2. Now, Aascar Ravichandran sent him a legal notice for associating himself with the Hindi adaption of Anniyan. Shankar is yet to respond to this development.
