Maari2 Movie Review - Dhanush and Sai Pallavi shine in this gangster drama

Maari 2 Story

Maari (Dhanush) has absconded from Chennai and is now settled in a place near the city. Still, people are after Maari and are so invested in killing him.

Enter Thanatos aka Beeja (Tovino Thomas), whose sole aim is to ‘kill Maari’. He calls himself the God of Death and manipulates Maari’s best friend Kalai (Krishna) to turn against him.

In the ultimate face off, Beeja and Maari lock horns. Will Beeja learn the truth behind Maari’s intentions? What does the future hold for Maari?

Maari 2 Performances

Dhanush is back as the loveable Maari after three years. His swag and naughtiness has not changed one bit and is enjoyable to watch on screen.

Sai Pallavi is a such a star and is capable of stealing the show even when Dhanush is on-screen. Her character Araathu Anandhi is not just a ‘loosu Ponnu’, but a solid character with substance in the film.

Tovino Thomas as the menacing Beeja has made a great debut with Maari 2. His looks and his smile are enough to set the screens on fire.

Krishna as Kalai has gotten a second opportunity in films. Post Maari 2, Krishna might get more substantial scripts that will explore his acting skills.

Robo Shankar and Kalloori Vinoth are their usual self. Along with Dhanush and Sai Pallavi, they provide comic relief.

Maari 2 Positives

Director Balaji Mohan’s Maari has a cult following on Kollywood. With Maari 2, he has etched an interesting screenplay that keeps the audience glued for most part of the film.

The first half of Maari 2 is so much fun that you don’t even feel bored for even one second. Be it Maari’s histrionics or his the comedy, it’s entertaining and exactly what you expect in a commercial entertainer.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs especially Rowdy Baby is brilliant to watch on-screen. It’s brilliantly choreographed and entertaining to watch.

Sai Pallavi’s performance does not need words. It’s just flawless and a huge boost to Maari 2.

Maari 2 Negatives

Maari had a brilliant first half and slowly it spiralled down in the second part. Likewise, the sequel suffers the same case. The second half of Maari 2 is a disappointment.

The big reveal is a bit confusing and questions the whole point of Beeja’s existence. But, Tovino’s acting is enough to keep you hooked.

Maari 2 Verdict

Maari 2 is a perfect commercial entertainer that will evoke all sorts of positive emotion. From comedy, romance to action, everything is aplenty in this flick.
