Sir Review - Story

Sir is about Balu, a private institution lecturer who is sent to a government school to make the children at the school pass. Balu accomplishes more than what he's asked, which becomes a problem for the head of the private institution. This raises problems for Balu. What happens there on forms the rest of the story.

Sir Review - Analysis

The best thing about Sir is Dhanush's performance, without a doubt. The actor carries the entire film on his shoulders and every scene that he is seen in, is entertaining for sure. We can see Dhanush in his Raghuvaran BTech zone, something that made him closer to the Telugu audiences. While Dhanush is effortless on the screen, even he can't save this film, which has every element that has been seen numerous times before. Samyuktha Menon, the leading lady of this film, doesn't have a lot to do in the movie. She has a good love track with Dhanush in the first half, and that's about that. There's not much else that can be said about her character or performance.

Samuthirakani is seen in a run of the mill role, something that he has done previously. There's nothing new that his character has to offer, except the occasional bad news, which our hero overcomes very easily.

The other supporting cast, like Saikumar, Hyper Aadi and others, are good enough in their roles and come and go as per the script's demand. Hyper Aadi's comedy track is slightly entertaining, but the rest of the movie is just passable.

Director Venky Atluri's film did not turn out to be as confident as his pre-release event speech for sure. He chose a very familiar story and a very routine screenplay to tell a story that has been told differently already. The message that the makers were talking about, is lost in translation, and even while it is being told on the big screen, it doesn't make a lot of impact.

The main disadvantage for Sir is the screenplay and the pacing. The screenplay is redundant and the pacing makes you want to sleep midway through the film. The second half is a major minus point for the film, as there's nothing that's remotely entertaining in it.

The other departments, like the music and cinematography of the film, are good. GV Prakash gave some really good songs. The production design looks rich, but the editing could have been a lot better.

Sir Review - Verdict

Verdict: Sir is not a movie that you would regret not watching in theatres. It can be skipped very safely, which will also save you a lot of time.
