Two young British soldiers Lance Corporal Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), and Lance Corporal Schofield (George MacKay) carry a messahe to call off a doomed offensive attack. The message has to be delivered at the Germans the next morning. As if is important for Blake to stop his brother from taking part in the attack, he starts his journey with the message. The rest of the film is the struggles he faced during this horrifying journey.
Coming to the performances of the movie, it is Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay who carried the film on their shoulders. Both put engaging performances and kept the audiences travel through their characters. The ups and downs of the emotions they encounter in their journey got presented well in their performance. Also, the presence of other actors like Andrew Scott, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Richard Madden makes the audiences feel good.
While talking about the performances of the movie, the single-take shot comes first. It is one of the brilliantly shot and edited parts of the film. Probably, it is very rare in the cinema these days, especially, with a war backdrop. The way the director conceived the scene is precise. The camera work by Roger Deakins is an absolute delight to the eyes. The music by Thomas Newman rightly travels with the mood of the movie. Lee Smith's editing is perfect and the single-take shot is the example for the same. The VFX work is amazing and the production house pulled off an amazing feat with their technical team by bringing the best output. The action sequences are choreographed in an interesting and thrilling manner.
Right from the first scene itself, the film transports you into a different world. The way the characters are written is so beautiful that we feel for them. We travel with them until the last scene and much beyond that. With the two brilliant actors leading from the front, every single person in the technical team have supported them rightly, making the film altogether a memorable experience. 1917 is a film that celebrates heroism in its own way. The movie is a tribute to sacrifice and heroism. The stories of the war are always fascinating and so is 1917 which is one of the most thrilling movies that came in the last decade.
