Tandav tells the story of political rivalry in India as it unfolds the lives of its various fictional characters. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia, Tandav is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and scripted by Gaurav Solanki who previously received much acclaim for his script in Article 15. Tandav tells the story of male and female politicians who will stop at nothing including murders, extortions and kidnapping when it comes to retaining their political power.
The sheer presence of both Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia brings the show a unique charm that not all actors can muster. This works in favour of the show despite its lacklustre script and story as the actors themselves steal many shots each time they appear on the screen.
Unlike films like Rajneeti that brought with it a unique perspective into the lives of Indian politicians, Tandav seems solely interested in capturing the cliches any audience member would expect. In its promise of delivering a spectacle, Tandav only delivers a slow paced politically driven show that is full of the usual murders, and kidnapping that you can expect to appear in the show.
If you are a fan of any of Tandav’s lead cast the show can continue to marvel you as it focuses a lot on its characters. However, if you are looking for a show on the same level as House of Cards when it comes to being politically driven, Tandav fails to hit the Mark.
