Georgekutty and his family are still haunted by fear and trauma of what happened six years ago, Georgekutty is working on his dream of making a movie but the police are still after him to solve the unsolved mystery of that night. how will Georgekutty escape this time around saving himself and his family again makes the plot.
The movie begins where its prequel ended. A family living in the fear of the truth coming out. Even a distant police siren sends a chill down their spine. And of the viewers too, with the thrill factor present in the movie right from the beginning, Mohanlal’s Georgekutty and the rest of the characters are on the job right from the word action unlike in the prequel, where Joseph took time to build up the story.
Meena once again gives a riveting performance as Georgekutty’s always tense wife Rani while Asha Sarath too resumes as Geetha Prabhakar, fleeting between the merciless cop and a grieving mother along with Siddique, who also gives a controlled act like a helpless father waiting for at least the ashes of his son. Writer, producer, singer, a former journalist and actor Murali Gopi is one welcome addition to the cast and he delivers as IG Thomas Bastin, a cop who refuses to give up till he gets an upper hand in the cat and mouse game with Georgekutty. Or at least till he believes so. Same goes for the rest of the cast, who all come with great performances in the gripping tale. The standout is Mohanlal, who reprises the role of a man, who in IG Bastin’s words has sworn to go to any extent to protect his family. A meaningful glance and at times, a loaded silence and otherwise, a man trying to keep his calm even when all hell breaks loose around him - Mohanlal’s prowess is what takes an ordinary man like Georgekutty to an extraordinary level. Now a theatre owner, this former cable TV operator is also into movies, trying to get one in which he wants to give opportunities to newcomers and has the story with himself, all the while trying to dodge the probing eyes of Bastin and his shadow cops.
Seldom do sequels match up to the beginning! Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 comes with the tagline ‘The Resumption’ and lives up to it, perhaps even taking the suspense element to the next level. With a cinema within a cinema, which holds the key to the climax, Jeethu Joseph keeps the intrigue alive throughout the film, which is an absolute must-watch with a better background score as well than the prequel.
