Toofan Story:

Ali(Farhan), a crooked gangster rises from the streets of Dongri to emerge as a champion boxer. But his journey is laced with hardships, heartbreaks, and uphill challenges. The rest of the story unravels his journey to the top.

Toofan Analysis:

Farhan Akhtar is one of the gifted actors in Bollywood and he delivers an explicable performance in the role of a crooked and hardened gangster who has to battle his inner demons and also prove himself in the boxing ring. He is a class act. Mrunal Thakur plays a brief yet impactful role. Mohan Agashe is equally good.

Toofan scores distinction on the performances front but it fails in dishing out an emotionally engaging story. For much of the run-time, the emphasis is on the hardships faced by the protagonist Ali, played by Farhan. These sequences turn bland and repetitive beyond a point. The narration is formulaic and that is a big no-no for a sports drama.

The film has a run-time of 160 minutes and in all fairness, it doesn’t have the impetus to keep the viewer engaged for such a long period of time. The set-up is unimaginative and that works against the cause.

Toofan Verdict:

Toofan is powered by Farhan, who shows his finesse in a seemingly complex role. But the unimaginative storyline and set-up work against the cause. The film ends up as an underwhelming watch.
